They treat hundreds of cancer patients with cryosurgery therapy
A therapy based on cryosurgery driven by a medical team of Malaga has enabled treatment in just over a year to a hundred cancer patients, especially kidney, prostate, lung and bone.
The medical team Cryosurgery Malaga, who leads the urologist Pedro Torrecillas, was elected in September 2011 by the American Foundation Radge Haakon as a collaborator to implant therapy in Europe "Cryo Immunomodulated", which strengthens the body's internal defenses.
EFE Torrecillas explained that by this therapy results are obtained "frankly wonderful" and that in some conditions the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, lung cancer case.
Therapy which began to be developed in the U.S., involves freezing the cancer cells by a gas, which is applied through needles that are inserted into the tumor using ultrasound or CT control.
Expanding the gas within the probe to reduce the temperature of the affected area, which can reach the -192 degrees Celsius achieved and eliminate malignant cells.
In addition to destroying the cancer cells are released tumor antibodies thereto, which previously have been cultured following removal of blood to the patient.
In cases where the cancer is advanced, the technique can be applied to reduce the tumor mass and the patient improves their quality of life, said.
The team, currently comprising doctors from various specialties, has tried both Spanish and European patients, all adults, in a proportion of 60 and 40 percent, respectively.
Among the cases he has treated, commented Torrecillas of a patient who spent his plane ride from Scotland practically standing because of the intense pain that caused a tumor in the rectum, and, once treated, could return sitting around the way.
Also referred to another patient who had metastases Gibraltar, at a rate of 14,000 nanograms of PSA (tumor marker for prostate cancer) before surgery last March and almost after a year sheds levels 0, 8 of this PSA.
